Difference in WH and BH Mentality
I was just reading this great post from Copyblogger about Why You Can’t Make Money Blogging. Here’s an excerpt:
Fake Steve Jobs’ best month came with a traffic spike. His actual identity was revealed in the New York Times, sending more than a half-million people to his site in a single day.
His payout? For that half-million-visitor day, about a hundred dollars in AdSense earnings. For the entire month, he made $1,039.81.
Not quite what he was hoping for when he became a celebrity blogger and earned an impressive amount of attention and notoriety.
So if Fake Steve Jobs can’t monetize a blog, the rest of us are doomed, right? He worked hard, he created quality content, he had a terrific angle that went nicely viral. He was at the pinnacle, and he’s broke. So we will be too.
And I realized the author of that post demonstrates a Whitehat mentality – BHs and WHs think differently!
A friend of mine recently bought a general blog from Flippa. He got it cheap considering it was doing nearly 1 million page views a month. The original owner could barely make any money from it because of its general nature. My friend bought it because of something called TRUSTRANK – the blog has many thousands of high-quality backlinks.
As a BH, my first thoughts about the Fake Steve Jobs’ blog (FSJ) were about the level of trust (TrustRank) it has in the SERPs. Yahoo Site Explorer is showing over 160k inlinks! Pages on sites with high TrustRank (not PageRank) are indexed very quickly (almost instantly sometimes) and rank exceptionally well even without any backlinks. And, with backlinks, they shoot up the SERPs!
So, it would be so easy for FSJ to incorporate product reviews on his blog and make six figures a year! Hey, he could even integrate a complete online store and watch his blog revenue go through the stratosphere
For an example of this, read Darren’s interview with Manolo. And that interview is 4 years’ old. How much is Manolo making now all because of something called Trustrank?
spot on. But I’m pretty sure FSJ is not blogging for the money.
yahoo backlinks are about as valuable as rice, sure your right still though
Rice is valuable. Tell a Chinese that rice isn’t valuable he’ll slap you in the face.
What exactly is the difference between trustrank and pagerank??
