I ran a number of tests and what I can see - Google has an expired domain filter. So say good-bye to your PR in the next PR update. Also, you can kiss any new backlinks you've acquired to the site good-bye, because the filter appears to discard these also. You'll still be indexed, but that doesn't matter if you're not ranking! Expired domains are short lived.
